How To Get The Henry Golding Haircut (Crazy Rich Asian Style)

    by Zheelana Cottam

This British-Malaysian actor left an impression on the world after his breakout role in the innovative comedy Crazy Rich Asians (2013). Henry Golding played the handsome and incredibly wealthy Nick Young, the rich son of a crazy rich family in Singapore, where Golding got to show off his skilled acting and an incredible head of thick, black hair. It was an instant hit, solidifying his role in the spotlight, and fuelling Crazy Rich Asians 2 & 3

Later in his career Golding went on to star opposite Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as her love interest in the feel-good family Christmas film Last Christmas (2019). Then in the same year took up the role of gangster supervillain Dry Eye in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen (2019) which gives you a peek into the world of London’s drug empires. Golding stars against a list of Hollywood legends such as Matthew McConaughy, Colin Farrell, and Charlie Hunnam.

And, as you may have guessed, he rocked incredible hair in each of those roles. So, we have decided to put together a style guide so you can try out a few of this crazy rich Asians haircut.

Henry Golding’s go-to cut is a classic heartthrob haircut. The look on all sexy men who start out their careers featuring in romcoms. It is great for recreating that suave, gentlemen look. Perfect for big events and gives you a great opportunity to dress up more. To get this cut you need to ask your barber for a slight taper with a scissor over comb with a long fade and a quiff.

    How To Cut:

Instruct your barber or stylist to over comb the back and sides of your hair and cut the hair short around the bears and neck. To make sure you’re both on the same page it may be helpful to show them the picture (above). For the top hair you want to point cut into it at about three to four inches and taper the hair off towards the crown of the head.

    How To Style:

    • Start with wet, towel dried hair. Grab your comb and create a side parting before moving the rest of your hair back and flat.
    • Next grab some hair wax like our medium hold and highly shiny hair wax Styling Funk. Scoop up a pea sized amount of product and warm it up between your fingers. Then apply it through the hair starting at the back and bring it forward from root to tip.
    • Now grab your hairdryer. Set it to a medium heat whilst you comb the front of your hair up and back creating that quiff definition.
    • Finally, when your hair is about 90% dry, turn the hairdryer to the cold setting and blast your hair to set it all in place.

Haircut 2: Slicked back hair with mid-height fade.

This Dry Eye hairstyle from The Gentlemen is a great haircut and style if you have lots of thick hair and are looking for something to do with it. This look will make you feel like that professional gangster boss. Stylish but with huge bad boy energy. It is not recommended to do this hairstyle if you have a receding hairline as it will make it appear more prominent.

    How To Cut:

Book with you barber and ask for the back and sides to a cut down to a #3 all over. You want the hair on top to be a bit longer around four to five inches. You don’t want the hair on top to be too long just enough to style it back. Then for a medium height fade to complete the look.

    How To Style:

    • Start with damp, towel dried hair, and then get a pea sized amount of hair wax and warm the product up between your fingertips. We recommend our NO GUNK Styling Funk which should help hold your style all day and give your hair that high shine that Golding has.
    • Next grab your hairdryer and a comb. Set your dryer to a medium setting so you don’t damage your hair with the heat and then blow dry your hair back off your face. At the same time use the comb to style the hair back off your face. This will also create those texture lines that feature in this hairstyle.
    • If you want your hair to have that long lasting hold we suggest adding a stronger product on top to help set your look. Use some of our Matte Lava Clay and apply it to the front and sides of your hair.
    • Finally blast your hair with the hairdryer on a cold setting once more and you’re done.

TIP: If you want your haircut to look as filthy rich as Henry Golding’s the secret is to go for regular trims. Rich people get their haircut frequently, so they have no dry ends. No dry hair means you hair stays hydrated, shiny for longer.
