It’s 2022 and Jake Gyllenhall (pronounced Ji-lun-hall for those of you wondering) is looking better than ever. It’s unsurprising really. It is Jake Gyllenhaal afterall. The man is Hollywood royalty and that is because he has played some amazing roles in some truly iconic films. Even people who haven’t seen his films have some idea of what he's in. He is famed for his part in the cult classic Donnie Darko (2001) where he plays the strange and awkward lead who repeatedly hallucinates a terrifying figure in a rabbit costume named Frank who tells him the world is going to end in 28 days. Terrifying.

Throughout his ever-growing career Gyllenhaal has starred alongside other Hollywood legends such as Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain (2005), Anne Hathaway in Love and other drugs (2010) and even Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo in David Fincher’s mystery thriller zodiac (2007). It is plain to see that Gyllenhaal is a versatile and incredible talent, which he proves time and time again. We have seen him play a borderline psychotic cameraman in Nightcrawler (2014) and a sword wielding prince in the Prince of Persia (2016). Jake Gyllenhaal is also one of the lucky few who have been swept up in the Marvel Universe and portrayed Mysterio in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Far From Home where he worked with everyone favourite Brit, Tom Holland

And one thing he manages to do in all of these films, other than transform himself into these incredible characters, is look incredibly good. We know this is undoubtedly a combination of good genes, a strict workout regime and beautifully kept hair. So, we have decided to put together a few of Jake Gyllenhaal haircuts and hairstyles for you to try out below.

Hairstyle 1: Swept back scissor cut

This tends to be the cut Jake Gyllenhaal goes for when he doesn’t have to change up his hair for a film. It is a layered scissor cut hairstyle – which means no scissors! – which he usually styles swept back. It is a great haircut if you want to look suave and polished. It is also incredibly easy to style.

    How To Cut:

To cut this hair you’re going to start at the back and move upwards towards the crown. Comb the hair up and then cut the hair around an inch and a half away from the head. You shouldn’t be able to see any scalp. Use these same methods on the sides of the head and make sure to cut down the hair around the ears. For the top you want to keep things long, so you are able to sweep your hair back for styling (show barber picture for reference).

    How To Style:

    • To start you’re going to want damp, towel dried hair. Then you’re going to scoop up a pea sized amount of our Styling Funk hair wax and warm the product up between your fingertips. Apply the product throughout the hair, start at the back and move forward, from root to tip. This will help with texture and shine.
    • Next get a hair dryer and a brush. Put your hairdryer on a medium heat and blow your hair back off your face. Use the brush at the same time to sweep the hair back.
    • Now you will need a small amount of our Matte Lava Clay. Prep the product in the same way as the Styling Funk. Apply it to the sides and heavier hair at the front. This will help give you a stronger and more lasting hold.
    • To set your new hairstyle put your hair dryer on its coldest setting and give your hair a quick blast.

    Hairstyle 2: The undercut

This hairstyle was highly coveted after Gyllenhaal’s role as the tormented Detective Loki in Prisoners (2013). This hairstyle was way ahead of its time. It’s 2022 and a slicked back top with an undercut is still a look you will see many stylish men rocking today.

    How To Cut:

To start you want to scissor cut the top hair at around five to six inches and then taper it off towards the back of the head till it is about an inch in length. For the sides you want to start at a #3 at the base and move up into a #4. Remember to leave a triangle of hair between the hairline and temple. Your barber can scissor overcome this remaining hair so that it blends longer compared to the rest of the hair. For the back you to start at a #3 at the base of the neck and move into a #4 until it blends in with the top hair.

    How To Style:

    • To style, start with clean and slightly damp hair. You don’t want your hair dripping. To get that shiny wet finish get a small amount of our NO GUNK Styling Funk and apply it to your hair from root to tip.
    • Grab your hairdryer and trusty comb. Aim your hairdryer so your hair dries straight back and then comb your hair from front to back. Once your hair is dry, quickly blast it with some cold air to help it keep its position.
    • For that extra firm hold use a small amount of our Matte Styling Clay and apply it to the hair in the same way as the previous style. Now to finish, slick your hair back using the comb to help create those textured fine lines in your hair.
